Principal Lisa, The Potty Queen

A little about me…

I am an ex-Nursery School Principal in Dubai and have worked with babies and children of all ages in a variety of ways for the last 30 years. During this long career, I have been fortunate enough to work closely with hundreds of families as I came alongside them to guide, advise, and support them in their family life. I am a mother of three grown-up children and originally from Surrey and Cornwall in the UK. I love riding my vintage bicycle, cooking, reading, and heading to the beach for a swim in the gloriously warm waters here in Dubai. I live with my husband, Gary, and little pug dog called Princess Margaret.

What is my approach?

I genuinely love potty training, talking about it and finding little tricks to make it easier and more enjoyable for the whole family. I love helping a child walk a little taller as they take the step from baby to toddler.

Each child is unique and I dig around in my treasure chest of wisdom to find the tools you need for your little trainer. I place a firm emphasis on consistency, as a family trainer. I can help you potty train in the shortest amount of time, with the least amount of stress and the most fun!

The most asked questions and highest attended of my workshops over the years are usually for potty training, behaviour or sleepless nights. This is an area of a child’s development which can often add the most stress and strain to family life. I have devised a simple no-nonsense approach that is easy for parents to follow and I offer them bespoke packages of care and support. I genuinely love supporting families and finding little tricks/hacks to make a family’s life a little calmer and more manageable. I can offer your family a bespoke service based on your child’s unique needs: covering potty and sleep training and a variety of family life challenges. Each child is unique and I will dig around in my treasure chest of wisdom to find the tools you need for your little one.

Quite simply, my goal is to empower you to empower your child.

Potty/Toilet Training

I believe that being ready to potty train means demonstrating skills in a few areas of child development such as language, physical, emotional and cognitive development. For example: can your child name or point to parts of their body? Can your child sing a few nursery rhymes? Can they follow a verbal instruction? Are you using less nappies? Do they choose to toilet in the same area of the house out of sight? Most experts agree that the first signs of being ready to start potty training begin to emerge at around 18-20 months and will continue to develop over the coming months. This creates an optimum window of opportunity to toilet train your child.

If you came to me for support, I would evaluate your child’s current skills and readiness to toilet train. With an understanding of your child’s unique toileting needs and their personality I’d help you to create a potty training environment that’s supportive and effective.  One of my specialisms is working with children for whom toilet training hasn’t been successful and the child may be withholding, soiling or refusing.

Sleep Training for children aged 1 year and over

I always approach family life with supportive kindness and respect for parental choices. Quite simply, I work with each family to create a sleep plan that families feel comfortable and confident to implement. Many families choose to step towards a peaceful night’s sleep slowly, creating positive sleep associations one step at a time. This avoids methods such as leaving a little one to cry and distressed parents feeling over tired and exhausted. My methods can be described as uniquely creative as I gently listen to your child, to you as the parent; and I offer solutions suited uniquely to your family. The result is a gentle, no-tears and respectful approach to sleep training and some well-established self-soothe skills for your child and a goodnights rest.

Our Nanny Queen service is geared towards a family who may be struggling with toddler/child behaviour and perhaps the parental confidence to manage in stressful situations. I work directly with the parent/and or family nanny to create a behaviour management plan and approach that suits the needs of the family. I make sure to consider families current routines, parenting style and gently coach the family to make necessary changes.
